The newest Valley Dairy finally opened a few weeks ago in the Norwin Hills Shopping Center. I had planned to stop in for breakfast one morning. As I had an appointment coming up in November, I needed to get some bloodwork done. Thus, the perfect opportunity to visit the newest dining spot in Westmoreland County.
Valley Dairy has 14 stores throughout western and central Pennsylvania, with North Huntingdon being the newest addition. Other restaurants are located in:
Altoona Connellsville Johnstown
Belle Vernon Cranberry (Oil City) Kittanning
Blairsville Dubois Latrobe
Butler Indiana Leechburg
Mount Pleasant North Huntingdon
The chain calls Latrobe home, and there’s a nice history behind the chain. Valley Dairy has that Kings vibe to it, and the Leechburg store replaced a former Kings location in 2023. Their restaurants open in shopping centers or around big box stores. The opening of this Valley Dairy gives Eat’n Park good competition, just like Aldi in 2023. A new location replaced the former Staples in Hempfield Plaza and has given Giant Eagle (across US 30) some good competition.
Also, with Kings down to two locations, it’s a good replacement for the Pittsburgh-based chain.
When I said that it has that Kings vibe, I highlighted the comfort food that is served on the menu. Also included is the family friendly atmosphere. I sat at the counter this morning for breakfast. The griddle combo seemed like the right choice, complete with hotcakes, overeasy eggs, and bacon. The service was excellent, and they made sure my cup was full (of coffee). I got my food quick and like my bloodwork, I was in and out in good time. Atmosphere was relaxed, and around 8am, more customers started to filter in. Watching the employees hard at work reminded me of my days working in the restaurant business. I always wish I could have appreciated it more being a recent college graduate, instead of missing my safe space that I called it.
Perry’s Ice Cream is one of the brands they use. That name rang a bell as we carry it in the frozen foods section at Giant Eagle.
Overall, a five out of five for the new restaurant.
