Reviewing the Fall 2026 Vacation!

The Cape May trip wrapped up Friday morning with breakfast at Hemingway‘s. We had to face the music as we would be leaving Cape May to head home. With money left on our cards, we also picked up a few snacks for the road and used up whatever funds were left on those. What I had covered breakfast for all of us. It was better than Tuesday night and not as crowded. Anytime I see challah French toast on the menu, I think you’ve made a sale! When it was all said and done, we would be on the road by 10am.

Breakfast consisted of trips to Uncle Bill’s, Mermaids, and Hemingways. Meals I had in that respective order: Pumpkin Pancakes, Eggs Benedict (with Crabmeat), and the Berry French Toast. While the challah bread decided it for me Friday morning, the pumpkin pancakes were the clear cut winner this week. Dinner was from Hemingways, Lobster House, and the Ugly Mug. The Shrimp Alfredo was my first meal that Tuesday night. The fried seafood platter was what I had from the Lobster House. I could have probably sprang for the lobster though. At the Ugly Mug, I got the open-face reuben. While it was good, and I love a reuben whenever I eat out, I will consider the crab cakes next time.

Some of the other highlights from Cape May included walking on the beach. While I missed an opportunity to swim in the heated outdoor pool in mid-October, the beach walks made up for it. Something about the sand beneath your toes and the waves, I think. This experience reminded me of my college days, going to spring break at Panama City Beach. The Cape May trip rekindled my love for the beach and the seaside resorts.

Also memorable was my shopping trip to Washington Square. I’ve been here before as this wasn’t my first time in Cape May. But this is the first time in the Giant Eagle era that I’ve been to the shore. The square is a blown up version of Ligonier with more to see. The Victorian houses are just the tip of the iceberg. I spent a good bit of my Thursday afternoon into the early evening in the square. I made the most of it checking out the various shops.  But there were missed opportunities during my time at Cape May this week. One thing you’ll want to know about me is that I have intense Fear Of Missing Out (FOMO).

We didn’t do our usual stop at Sunset Beach. It’s always tradition to come here, and this year we just didn’t get around to it. I didn’t get to enjoy a lobster roll, either, and there were signs for me to have one. Next time I’m in Cape May I will be sure to put that on my list. While I’m at the Square, I’ll also want to do a tour via trolley or ride in the hansom cab. The key to a successful return trip is to plan better, but also  to research what is open. That’ll be the case if we come back in the Fall or close to Christmastime. Fall is a different season than Summer. It’s much more calm, yet some places may not be open. While I was left feeling full, I also want to remember to save room for dessert, as I missed out on a good Peace Pie and some ice cream.
