Going Shopping at the Washington Street Mall!

Thursday morning

It definitely felt like Fall this morning, compared to the previous day. The plan was to have breakfast at Mermaids. We would have gone there for dinner Wednesday night if Lobster House was too crowded or we couldn’t eat outside. Later on, we would make plans to shop in the square. Before I highlight my second full day in Cape May, I’ll take you back to Wednesday night.

The night before

We almost took a hard pass on Lobster House as we couldn’t find a parking spot. However, we made it work. I assumed the Nor’Easter would have taken a toll on the outdoor seating section. That wasn’t the case, though. This is a lesson in why you don’t jump to conclusions. We had a great dining experience Wednesday night, and we left feeling very full.

We ended our night out with a drive past the shopping area. Imagine how beautiful this beach town will look at Christmas. In addition to writing and taking it easy, I’ve been hard at work knocking out chapters in my romance novel. Love Felt Like This has been just as good of a read as Julie Olivia’s first book. I’ve just learned that she is planning a new book for 2027, and it continues the story in the fictional Vermont town of Copper Run. Not sure who the main focus will be though. Stay tuned.

Thursday Morning felt like Fall

You definitely needed a light jacket Thursday morning if you were taking a walk or riding your bike on the Promenade. Just like Wednesday, I took some time to walk on the beach, once again feeling the sand beneath my toes. Over the ocean, skies were dark. Into town, it felt like the sun wanted to come out. We agreed to meet up around 9:30 for breakfast. I cut it close getting back as I was enjoying my morning walk.

We had breakfast at Mermaids, as we originally planned. After seeing Eggs Benedict on the menu at Uncle Bill’s the previous morning, I knew what I wanted from the menu. I lived a little and ordered them with crabmeat. Mermaids has outdoor seating, giving you a nice view of the ocean while you enjoy your dining experience. It was too cool and breezy this morning, so we settled for eating inside. Vacations are all about eating out and enjoying yourself.

After some time in the pool, I headed out a little bit early to shop. The Somerset Gaffrons would meet up with me later.

Coffee and Christmas Ornaments at the Square

My first stop was for coffee. I promised myself that I’d hit up a cafe in Cape May. The Magic Brain is one that I’d been to before. Keeping with the theme of having Fall coffee, I ordered a Pumpkin Chai. I found a seat under the stairwell (that leads to a yoga studio). I wish I’d have brought my novel with me and I could have knocked a few chapters off there. Another coffee shop that I’d like to visit in Cape May is Coffee Tyme. I’ll make a note of that for next time.

Shopping was an adventure. As we drove around on Wednesday, I made plans for where I wanted to do. Of course I’d check out Della’s 5 and 10 in my travels.

My first stop was to Winterwood, a holiday store that looks beautiful from the outside. I got a few pictures of the exterior. In Winterwood, I looked around and picked up a few ornaments and a puzzle. I need something besides writing to keep my busy and this jigsaw puzzle has a holiday theme. The other onc I picked up at the hotel gift shop will be for the winter months. At another shop, I found a book on different types of food all over the world. It wasn’t a trip to the beach this week without a little salt water taffy.

Closing Out the Day (and the blog) at the Ugly Mug

We went to my aunt’s favorite restaurant at Cape May, the Ugly Mug. It’s Mr. Clougherty’s favorite as well. I did some browsing when I arrived in the square a few hours ahead of the Somerset Gaffrons. I ordered the open face reuben. Fun fact about me, I love to eat a good reuben sandwich when I eat out. It’s either that or the country fried steak. My aunt got her crab cakes she had been looking forward to. We ate good, maybe a little too good. I was hoping that we could have saved ourselves room for ice cream or a Peace Pie. The night soon came to and end, and the next day we would be heading home.
