Perfect Day for a Birthday Picnic!

On Sunday, we celebrated my aunt’s birthday at our house. After the volatile week that we had, this weekend’s weather was well-deserved. Her official birthday was the day before, but the day after was just as good.

Mom put together a nice spread for the picnic. The main course was a big pan of lasagna. Off to the side was meat sauce for those of us to put on it. This was a good lasagna, and the alfredo sauce cooked in was a nice touch. There was also a veggie tray. We also had garlic toast and salad which complemented the main meal, and watermelon. For dessert, we enjoyed Texas sheet cake with ice cream. One of the flavors was birthday cake.

With this being Labor Day weekend, it raised an important question:

  • Was this the last weekend that the pool would be open in the Not Much of a Summer 2026?

I didn’t want to regret it, so I got in the pool last night following my dessert. With the solar cover on the pool, it kept the water somewhat warm. It’s cold the further you go down. Did I swim as much as I wanted to? No, but I made the most of my opportunities. Other activities kept me busy, and I have made up for it this year when it comes to my physical fitness. When we go to Cape May next month, I will make time to swim in the pool at The Grand.

It hurts to think about it, but we will be closing the pool by this weekend.

Saturday afternoon, I enjoyed my coffee at Caleese. For 3pm, they were pretty steady (I left about 15 minutes to close). But it looks like they recovered nicely from the power outage that left them closed Friday. This weekend was a nice recovery from the events of Thursday night.  I made time to walk around downtown Greensburg afterwards, and parked by the shopping center that has trail access. I passed by Offutt Field and the cute little Sunset cafe which is a great dinner spot. I got my thirty minute walk, but it was still rather humid. Sunday more than made up for it.

This week leading into the holiday was chaotic, as our store was busy all weekend. It was a perfect storm of power outages, the holiday, and the birthday promotion. Overnight we were busy restocking, but we survived it all.

It’s time to look ahead to the week, and the start of the NFL season.
