We‘re in the closing days of summer, and the weather will be trending cool and damp this week. Even though we’re tired of the rain and it seems like a broken record at this point, there’s just something about Fall. Drinking coffee and watching the rain fall outside is just relaxing and therapeutic. It’s like watching the first snowflakes fall in November.
Fall begins Tuesday, and I’m counting down to October and my week off. From the looks of it, next month will be busy for both me and my family.
There is a lot on tap other than the usual coffee visits and football games I’ll be watching on TV. The Great British Bake-off will be in full swing and I’ll be enjoying it with my mom and sister. I’ll have something to share at the reunion with my cousin since she likes the show.
College football will be getting into conference play and those games are always fun to watch. Baseball will shift to the postseason and the road to the 2026 World Series. Fall is a good time to be a sports fan.
You can’t forget the changing colors when you’re out traveling through the Laurel Highlands. I don’t think I’ll see any next week on my trip to Ligonier however. I’m looking forward to a Stars Hollow themed drink very soon.
Cutie’s Coffee is celebrating its third birthday in October. The first Saturday of the month there will be a market in the morning. If I’m off Friday night I’ll come down early. Otherwise it can wait until I wake up as they’re open until 4. Later in the month, Caleese (in West Point) will have its first birthday.
BariSax turns 14 in October. Not sure when we’ll celebrate as our Columbus Day weekend is already busy. It may be the weekend after, which is around the time Cutie‘s has their Trunk or Treat event. We’ve graduated from the days of birthday parties at Twin Lakes and Mammoth. The Harry Potter themed party for her 11th birthday was pretty sweet though. A developing story and I’ll post when I know more.
Division Speech Contests will be running in October. Ours in Division F will be held on October 17 in Blairsville. That has become the central location for our division as U.S. 22 is a major route between Monroeville and the Allegheny Mountains. While it falls immediately after I get back from Cape May, more than likely I’ll be headed to Blairsville. Also it’s more than likely that I’ll put my hat in the ring to volunteer. The winners of the contest will represent the District at the first District 219 Fall Leadership Symposium. That will be November 13 and 14 in Boardman, Ohio.
My cousin‘s wedding is the weekend after I come back from vacation. It’ll be my first since going to Rob and Sara’s wedding in 2021. For our family, this will be the first since 2011.
My vacation starts the Friday before, and there is a lot entailed. I’ll go more into detail later this week as the countdown to 1000 is down to one hand.
