Thursday night marked 30 years since I started high school. One of my classes on my first day at “the big school” was Pre-Algebra with Mr. Clougherty. We met for our monthly dinner at a new spot, Plaza Azteca.
While September and October restaurants have been lined up, I wasn’t sure about where to go in August. We had Mexican food a few years ago at El Patron, and heard good things about the restaurant near Westmoreland Mall. Therefore, we would meet there. It’s definitely not like any previous Mexican place I’ve been to, and nothing like the spot my cousin and I went to last month.
This is a very fancy place with a second floor, that you can get to from the elevator. The atmosphere definitely fits. It’s almost like fine dining. The staff gave us time to look over the menu, and I needed some to pore over the massive menu. I couldn’t find the tamales and was considering the Birria Tacos. Ultimately, I settled on the Tiger Shrimp Tacos with the mango salsa. The complementary chip and salsa were a nice starter for the evening. Props to the staff for checking up on us. My tacos were awesome and the rice and beans were an awesome side.
But, it isn’t dinner with Mr. Clougherty without our usual talking points.
The usual conversations included the construction at the high school and how my work is going. It definitely felt different not waking up early and having students to enrich. He’ll still have the swim team and plus the pets will keep him busy. Now that Kevin is retired, he’s able to do things he hasn’t. He can go out and have coffee at one of the many cafes that Greensburg has to offer. Therefore, I’m starting a new tradition. That is having coffee once a month. Since he’s close by, we will likely meet at Caleese.
That doesn’t mean we always have to meet there, so maybe Nico’s will be on our list. Is a Cutie’s Coffee flight in our plans for the holidays? We shall see.
Our next meal together is at the end of September. It’ll be a Friday Night Dinner. We plan to meet at Primanti’s. The year is flying by and the Dinner Series will be wrapping up soon. It’ll be a carbon copy as I will be doing some more retail therapy and likely shopping for BariSax’s birthday present.
We had a little bit of rain yesterday as I left the mall to make my way to Plaza Azteca but the sun was trying to come out. I give the weather an A for effort.
*BREAKING NEWS* My blog name and Instagram will be changing soon as the times are changing. I’ve been contemplating what the new titles will be and I think I have the solution.
“James the Lifestyle Writer” has a nice ring to it.
