One of my New Year’s Resolutions has been to go back to church in 2026. I’ve attended very little since transitioning into my current job at Giant Eagle. The two events aren’t related. In 2025, for the first time since high school, I did not attend church. That includes Easter and Christmas services.
As we turned the calendar to January, I gave thought to attending, but backed out. It could have been fatigue from working the night before, or I could have had cold feet. With the weather trending colder this upcoming weekend, will this Saturday night be the third attempt that becomes the charm?
Saturday services will work better for me, as I like to sleep during the day and have my afternoons and evenings free. Part of the reason would be my involvement in Toastmasters. Otherwise, I’d sleep away the afternoon and early evenings like most others whom I work with overnight.
My cousin and I made plans to meet up in Ligonier later this month for coffee. Like me, she also takes a liking to the independent coffee shops (Cutie’s and White Rabbit are a couple of my faves in Greensburg). I’m hoping for nice weather and not having to reschedule, as well as good community on the 29th.
As I begin the process of downsizing and making things a little more simple, I also want to look back. The nontraditional journey was fun, but I’ve accumulated too much and my busy schedule doesn’t always make things easy. I was vulnerable during COVID and those feelings lasted into the beginning of my time at Giant Eagle.
Would I say this journey has been a failure? No, but I would say it’s 50/50. Not a big disappointment but for it to have been successful, I should have started slower. Thus, it would have given me more room to grow. Plus, I wasn’t “all in” as I thought I was. We don’t always begin at the top as we need to take those stepping stones to get there.
